about

the blues never fits the mold. it make its own tuning. it's always out, but always in. it is a vagabondage. its home is the journey from tonal center to tonal center, station to station, life to life, being to being. i seek in these four tracks to reflect upon this ever-present movement -- to cool the vicious odds of american existence and create brilliant crossroads where all may gather in a everlasting, unpredictable peace. this is a first in a series of four mini-albums i am manifesting to raise funds for my first solo show at the Museum of the Association of African American Artists in Roxbury, MA.

part of this album was an exploration of being out of tune. i love how in blues recorders the players are always out of tune but it never sounds bad. they're in their own tuning. how do i bring that to the cello? how do i find that perfect balance?

the first track, cowbird titled as an inside joke pulsing with the bittersweet memories of my grandfather.

the second, tenderly, is a shot at finding the sweetness of the blues, the honey in the iron, the champagne allowing the heart to go on amidst the blaze of indignities.

the third, train whistle, is a sense memory translated to sound of the train lines by where i spent summers in southern AL
